Abraham Lincoln

Abraham Lincoln was our 16th President, and he is one of the most commonly known. He was born on February 12, 1809, in Sinking Spring Farm by Hodgenville in Kentucky. Abe was a Republican president from March 4, 1861, to April 15, 1865, and his Vice President was Hannibal Hamlin.

Abe believed that it was very important to end slavery for the better of the U.S, and realized that the states should not stay seceded so he reunited the Union and Confederacy back into the U.S.

The reason I believe that Abraham Lincoln deserves to be on the list of one of the greatest people in the U.S is that he was one of the first steps to make the concept of all men are created equal true. He also created the Emancipation Proclamation which didn’t free all slaves, but in the states, it applied it virtually set them free. It also let African-Americans serve in the Army and Navy so they could fight for their freedom.

“America will never be destroyed from the outside. If we falter and lose our freedoms, it will be because we destroyed ourselves.”
